Hikers Guide: 3-Days in Zion National Park

Zion National Park has some of the most unique geological formations in the world. From the Navajo Sandstone cliffs, narrow slot canyons like the Beartrap Canyon, and soaring Three Patriarchs monoliths. It also has hiking trails for all levels of hikers, from easy walks to challenging climbs. The landscape is truly one-of-a-kind with endless opportunities for exploration and adventure. Here’s our suggested itinerary for a 3-day trip to Zion National Park for a family of four who loves to hike.

Day 1:

  • Arrive at Zion National Park and check into where you are staying (if you haven’t already).
  • Start your day with an easy hike to the Lower Emerald Pool. This is a 1.2-mile roundtrip hike that offers beautiful views of a majestic 1 or 2, depending on the time of year, waterfalls flowing into a tranquil pool of water.
  • After the Lower Emerald Pool, continue on to the Middle Emerald Pool for another stunning view of Zion Canyon. This is a 2-mile roundtrip hike from the Lower Emerald Pool.
  • For your last hike of the day, head to the Canyon Overlook Trail, which offers fabulous views of the canyon. This is a moderate hike, but it’s only 1-mile roundtrip.

Day 2:

  • Begin your day with an early start and hike the Angels Landing Trail. This is a strenuous hike, but one you will always remember. Offering some of the most incredible views of Zion National Park. It’s 5.4 miles roundtrip with a steep ascent, but it’s well worth the effort.
  • After Angels Landing, you can continue on to the West Rim Trail for another beautiful view. This is a 6.6-mile roundtrip hike, and it’s considered moderate to difficult.
  • If you still have energy, you can take a leisurely stroll along the Pa’rus Trail, which offers beautiful views of the park.

Day 3:

  • For your final day, hike the Observation Point Trail, which is another strenuous hike that offers some of the most incredible views of Zion National Park. This is an 8-mile roundtrip hike, but it’s one of the most popular hikes in the park.
  • After the Observation Point Trail, you can head to the Weeping Rock Trail, which is an easy 0.4-mile roundtrip hike that leads to a beautiful rock formation.
  • Finally, end your day with a leisurely stroll along the Riverside Walk Trail, which is a 2.2-mile roundtrip hike that follows the Virgin River and offers stunning views of the canyon.

Of course, these are some of our suggestions, and you can adjust the itinerary based on your preferences and energy levels. Just make sure to bring plenty of water and snacks, wear appropriate hiking gear, and be prepared for any weather changes.
